A nine-year battle for “urination equality” has resulted in thousands taking to the streets of Amsterdam in an effort to open more public toilets.
Across the country, protests have begun popping up, calling on women to challenge for change.
“Women from across the country are invited to demonstrate the (im)possibilities of urinating in a public urinal built for men,” said the organisers. “Power to the Peepee”!
Female councillors, began rallying public support for the issue, and the city made changes, placing mobile toilets in major parks and green areas and informing the public that they could use facilities in sites like police stations and fire halls. The ultimate victory came when Amsterdam announced new wheelchair-accessible public toilets would be available with a total investment of €4m.
